Joe Mantegna Earns 500th Career Victory
Blair Academy coach reaches milestone as program continues national success, while his impact extends internationally.

Queens, NY - Blair Academy boys’ varsity basketball coach Joe Mantegna reached the 500th win of his career as his team defeated Northfield Mount Hermon 67–47, in a showcase event at St. Francis Prep.
Since taking over the Blair Academy program in 1999, Mantegna has guided the program to sustained national relevance. He has helped six former players reach the NBA, while more than 80 of his players have gone on to Division I rosters. He has also led Blair to 17 of the last 24 Mid-Atlantic Prep League (MAPL) titles, along with five state championships and a New Jersey Open title.
Mantegna’s influence extends beyond Blair. He served as an assistant coach for the South Sudan men’s national team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, helping guide the program to its first Olympic appearance, and has also worked with USA Basketball as both a court coach and the head coach of the 2022 Nike Hoop Summit Team.
He has longstanding ties to Big Apple Basketball, coaching for many years as Blair’s head coach in the Big Apple Basketball Invitational, a national showcase aligned with the organization’s mission of community engagement and exposure for student-athletes.
Now a member of the 500-win club, Mantegna continues to bridge prep basketball and the global game, guided by the same principle he has long emphasized with his teams — Cause Over Self.
